Snap Snap...

Last week, Starkweather and I were attacked on Bedford by a photographer for Wunderbloc. Wunderbloc is up-and-coming fashion site which has put together a great list of New York shops and boutiques, some we all know and love, and some we haven't heard of yet. You'll also find a gallery of stylish guys and gals they've meet along the way (which is where you'll find us).

Air Zoo

The 'Air Zoo' is an installation by artist Joshua Allen Harris. The plastic creatures, attached to subway vents, come to life as trains pass underneath and deflated soon after. Cool, no?

I never learned to ride a bicycle.

If I had actually learned to ride a bicycle as a child, and didn't have the traumatic experience of crashing into a fence in the process of learning, i'd probably be riding this beauty:

Arriving in August....

What is wrong with me? It's going to be April in a matter of days and i'm already thinking about Fall. The other day, I pre-ordered some AW 08 goodies from Harmon. I had my mind set on owning some Harmon for awhile. Andrew Harmon is such a free spirit and it translates directly into his clothes. It's never just about one idea or a singular theme that drives his collections, it's a whole slew of different influences and trains of thought. It's just the right amount of eccentricity. When I first saw the African mudcloth blazer from AW 07, I first thought, "It's not for me, but it's genius!". The piece i'm most looking foward to is everyone's perennial favorite, the Harmon parka. There's a reason why it keeps coming back every season and doesn't change.

Check out the latest collection here. Harmon is available at BBlessing, OAK, and Blackbird.

New York. Fashion. Spring.

Aside from the Philip Lim sandals i've been dying to wear, Spring has me excited for several other reasons.

The highly-acclaimed Takashi Murakami restrospective (formally at the MOCA), is coming to the Brooklyn Museum on April 5. And what's a Murakami retrospective exhibit without a Louis Vuitton pop-up store?

Spring means another installment of Uniqlo's annual Designer Invitation Project. Last season, the Japanese super-brand tapped Alexandre Plohkov to design a capsule collection for men. This Spring is all about Tim Hamilton and Loden Dager. I'm liking the knits, jackets, and button-downs. Not to mention the unbelievably accessible price points. I can only imagine who'll they'll invite next year. Perhaps Mr. Ervell?

Speaking of Patrik Ervell, his pretty face makes the cover of HE Magazine's Winter/Spring 08 issue. It's nice seeing New York designers get international attention. I mean, the one-day sample sale a few weeks back was a madhouse! I was lucky enough to walk away unscathed with an S/S 08 pleated tuxedo shirt and coordinating scarf. So it's only a sign of good things to come when there's a frenzy over New York menswear.

Goodbye OAK

It was a great 2 months interning at the OAK Showroom, but unfortunately I have to say "See ya" this Friday. The internship offered only a sample of what life is like in the fashion industry, something I definitely want to dabble in a little more. I still have my sights on architecture, but i'll always have fashion on my mind. I'm also very blessed to have had such a kick-ass boss. Zam is already making a few phone calls for me, one of them being to the Barney's buying office. So.... i'm getting there.

How 'bout some Spring?

I'm already a little too excited for it to be Spring as it is, and these sandals are certainly not helping bring it any closer. I just couldn't resist myself at work today. Can't wait for the day when I can walk outside comfortable in just a tee or a tank, jeans, and these gladiator sandals.

My Fall/Winter Bag

I spotted it back in September at the Marc by Marc store on Bleecker (Yes, I am still a victim to the hype that is Marc Jacobs). It's been a hit with the guys though intended as a womens article, according to the shopguy. I gave in a few months later. It must have been the handsome shape and the not so obnoxious plaid which plaid prints often tend to be, that did it for me. Not to mention the size is a statement as well. I can't seem to live without it these days, or at least until Spring arrives.

A Transformation

This is my license photo taken roughly 4 or 5 years ago. It represents the mess I was back then, the product of constantly being put down, rejected, ostracized, my own personal social akwardness, and the search for myself. It's remarkable how much things have turned around since then. I used to question my self-worth every second of every day, and then I fell in love for the first time, and everything change. For once, I had someone who really cared about me as a person, which in turn would result in my own self-realization. One of the most difficult things was trying accept something when you've denied it almost all your life, like when I was told I was a handsome person with a beautiful soul. I didn't think it was true at all. Sure from time to time I still feel like I did back then, but I know now that i'm worth more than nothing. Here I am today, i'm enjoying a beautiful life watching the snow fall in Brooklyn, wearing Margiela, doing rather well at Pratt, interning at Oak, and being hopeful about everything. I'm better. And if not for the one person who showed me love, i'd still be that guy in my license photo.

I Heart Chloë and Trasteverine

So...two really exciting things happened to me today. As I was checking my email and minding my own business at the showroom today, I look up to see the lovely Chloë Sevigny standing before me. Of course I was starstruck on the inside, but I kept my cool. However, I also thought to myself, "What would my life be like if I didn't work here?" So many things I don't expect to happen or rather I wish would happen have ended up coming true. Apparently, she needed to fit a dress she was wearing to a show tonight for Trasteverine.

Well, I also was pleasantly surprised when Zamari extended the invite for me to go to the Trasteverine show afterward. The presentation was held at the Greene-Naftali gallery in Chelsea. A short film entitled "The Fragile Black Blossoms Emit a Hypnotic Cascade of Tropical Perfume Whose Sweet Heady Odor Leaves Its Victim Intoxicated", which included Chloë Sevigny and Devendra Bernhardt both decked out in Trasteverine, served as the backdrop for the beautiful black creations, which were elegantly displayed on mannequins. I must say, i'm glad the showroom picked up this line. The concept of the little black dress is so malleable, and Trasteverine gets it. Every dress had its own charming detail attached to it: ruched pockets on the skirt, long fluid sleeves, or a convertible bolero cape, which gave each a different character like the actors in the film. I loved all of it, and i'm sure any fashion forward, intelligent woman would agree. This is definitely one to watch. Who said the little black dress had to be so goddamn boring? Obviously, Trasteverine didn't.

You don't know what you got 'til it's BOND

As much as I want to go see the Alexander Wang show today, I unfortunately partied a little too hard last night at the Oak Party. Jeff and Louis sure know how to pack the house and have a good time. The crowd fit nicely into the showroom space compared to the shindig for the Oakazine last October at the very tiny K&M. The vibe the entire night was very friendly and relaxed. I didn't feel like another face in the crowd. In fact, I was surprised how many people know who I am. I must doing something right as an intern and as a person in general. All in all the music, the drinks, and the really cute bartenders made for an awesome night, but a not so great morning after.

Death to Faux-Hawk

It's about damn time I ditched the faux-hawk and left it for the 50 year-old, Abercrombie-clad, Chelsea queen to rock. I'll admit, it WAS the hairstyle to sport for a hot minute. But now I look back at all my photos from the end of senior year through my first year of college and say to myself, "Somebody ought to slap that kid."

My appointment with Andy at Public Salon was the perfect way to end a long and arduous day of Pratt architectorture. It was my time at Public and honestly my first time at salon (unless I count the haircut I got from the stylist-in-training at the Aveda School). So I arrived a little before 6:30 and waited a bit, sipped some complimentary yerba maté and flipped through POP magazine. Then I got in the chair and experienced Andy work his magic.

Here's a before pic from last year.....

After.....

Much improved, don'tcha think? I think it makes me look more mature, and even slightly more polished. It'll look even better when the top is grown out a little more.

My thanks goes to Andy for a great job. I am most definitely a fan and soon to be Public devotee! So if you are male (or female), in need of a haircut, and in the New York area, definitely make the trip out to Williamsburg to Public!

A little Lim and Prada

Oak is throwing a little bash this Friday to celebrate the opening of their new Manhattan location at 28 Bond. Of course at events such as these, dressing to impress is a must. Even the intern has gotta look dashing! I came to the conclusion after perusing through my closet that I needed to shop for a new party attire. So I paid a visit to Barney's Coop and instantly fell in love with this 3.1 Philip Lim shirt.

It's very understated and unpretentious, which Lim is very good at doing when it comes to making clothes. This could explain why the man is so damn popular these days. The plaid isn't so 'in your face', and the subtle pleating on the chest is perfection. My aim for the evening is to stand out for wearing something that looks good and fits well. For me, going to party in head-to-toe Jeremy Scott is just a little tacky. It works on the street, and in Helsinki or Tokyo, but it's way to pretentious to be wearing to a party in my opinion. I'll pair the shirt with some kind of dark denim and maybe a cropped blazer, and my Prada bow bracelet on my wrist for a tiny bit of flash. I also need to get my hair cut and styled. I kinda want a cut similar to the models for Tim Hamilton's resort collection, granted it suits me and I have enough hair to pull it off.

A Night in Brooklyn/ D. Nurkse

We undid a button,
turned out the light,
and in that narrow bed
we built the great city -
water towers, cisterns,
hot asphalt roofs, parks,
septic tanks, arterial roads,
Canarsie, the intricate channels,
the seacoast, underwater mountains,
bluffs, islands, the next continent,
using only the palms of our hands
and the tips of our tongues, next
we made darkness itself, by then
it was time for dawn
and we closed our eyes
and counted to ourselves
until the sun rose
and we had to take it all to pieces
for there could be only one Brooklyn.

Yoko Devereaux Fall/Winter 08

Last night was the Yoko Devereaux show at Pier 92. I always admired Andy Salzer sensibility, his penchant for reinterpretation through fabrics like jersey and fleece. It's just great pieces for the everyday without looking like you tried to hard. Now I don't own any Yoko D personally, but the show definitely made me a bigger fan. The short sleeve cardigans and shawl collar sweatshirts were too cute. The outfits overall also had just the right hints of color in the all the right places. I think this year's fall/winter menswear is off to a good start.

Speaking of New York menswear, Fern Malice was right, we need to see more of it. The menswear shows are equally as great the womens wear shows if not better and more endearing. An entire week devoted to menswear? Wouldn't that be something. Lastly, I didn't want to be the obnoxious attendee snapping picture every damn second so just enjoy the shots I did get.

Special thank to Andy S., I couldn't have thought of a better way to start off my internship at the Oak Showroom.
