Death to Faux-Hawk

It's about damn time I ditched the faux-hawk and left it for the 50 year-old, Abercrombie-clad, Chelsea queen to rock. I'll admit, it WAS the hairstyle to sport for a hot minute. But now I look back at all my photos from the end of senior year through my first year of college and say to myself, "Somebody ought to slap that kid."

My appointment with Andy at Public Salon was the perfect way to end a long and arduous day of Pratt architectorture. It was my time at Public and honestly my first time at salon (unless I count the haircut I got from the stylist-in-training at the Aveda School). So I arrived a little before 6:30 and waited a bit, sipped some complimentary yerba maté and flipped through POP magazine. Then I got in the chair and experienced Andy work his magic.

Here's a before pic from last year.....

After.....

Much improved, don'tcha think? I think it makes me look more mature, and even slightly more polished. It'll look even better when the top is grown out a little more.

My thanks goes to Andy for a great job. I am most definitely a fan and soon to be Public devotee! So if you are male (or female), in need of a haircut, and in the New York area, definitely make the trip out to Williamsburg to Public!

A little Lim and Prada

Oak is throwing a little bash this Friday to celebrate the opening of their new Manhattan location at 28 Bond. Of course at events such as these, dressing to impress is a must. Even the intern has gotta look dashing! I came to the conclusion after perusing through my closet that I needed to shop for a new party attire. So I paid a visit to Barney's Coop and instantly fell in love with this 3.1 Philip Lim shirt.

It's very understated and unpretentious, which Lim is very good at doing when it comes to making clothes. This could explain why the man is so damn popular these days. The plaid isn't so 'in your face', and the subtle pleating on the chest is perfection. My aim for the evening is to stand out for wearing something that looks good and fits well. For me, going to party in head-to-toe Jeremy Scott is just a little tacky. It works on the street, and in Helsinki or Tokyo, but it's way to pretentious to be wearing to a party in my opinion. I'll pair the shirt with some kind of dark denim and maybe a cropped blazer, and my Prada bow bracelet on my wrist for a tiny bit of flash. I also need to get my hair cut and styled. I kinda want a cut similar to the models for Tim Hamilton's resort collection, granted it suits me and I have enough hair to pull it off.

A Night in Brooklyn/ D. Nurkse

We undid a button,
turned out the light,
and in that narrow bed
we built the great city -
water towers, cisterns,
hot asphalt roofs, parks,
septic tanks, arterial roads,
Canarsie, the intricate channels,
the seacoast, underwater mountains,
bluffs, islands, the next continent,
using only the palms of our hands
and the tips of our tongues, next
we made darkness itself, by then
it was time for dawn
and we closed our eyes
and counted to ourselves
until the sun rose
and we had to take it all to pieces
for there could be only one Brooklyn.

Yoko Devereaux Fall/Winter 08

Last night was the Yoko Devereaux show at Pier 92. I always admired Andy Salzer sensibility, his penchant for reinterpretation through fabrics like jersey and fleece. It's just great pieces for the everyday without looking like you tried to hard. Now I don't own any Yoko D personally, but the show definitely made me a bigger fan. The short sleeve cardigans and shawl collar sweatshirts were too cute. The outfits overall also had just the right hints of color in the all the right places. I think this year's fall/winter menswear is off to a good start.

Speaking of New York menswear, Fern Malice was right, we need to see more of it. The menswear shows are equally as great the womens wear shows if not better and more endearing. An entire week devoted to menswear? Wouldn't that be something. Lastly, I didn't want to be the obnoxious attendee snapping picture every damn second so just enjoy the shots I did get.

Special thank to Andy S., I couldn't have thought of a better way to start off my internship at the Oak Showroom.
